and Dick Van Patten. The screenplay was developed at ABC 1313 Vine St.
Hollywood, CA, in the old Mutual - Don Lee radio station, based on a original
treatment by film director Joe Massot, conceived to star Bob Dylan, The
Band, Ginger Baker and Bridgett Bardot. Massot's previous creation was
an English film production "Wonderwall", which featured a George Harrison
musical score. The Firesign Theatre was brought into the project, by Jim
Guercio, to flesh out the script, which contained very little dialogue.
The Firesign's first draft was 65 pages, which included themselves as
"Dr. Firesign's Theatre of the Plains and Buffalo Show" singing "Marching
To Shibboleth", eventually used in "Dwarf". This version was rejected.
The next draft was attempted with Joe Massot (at MGM Studios) under the
pseudonym of F. Scot Firesign. It was at this point Massot was eliminated
from the project and another draft was completed. Writing and re-writing
continued off and on for several months, until Phil Austin finally walked
out of the project, due to interference from the new staff. Re-writes
continued in Mexico, while scouting filming locations, and by the new
director, George Englund, during the actual shooting. 95% of The Firesign
Theatre's dialogue was retained in the final production. Only Phil Proctor
and Peter Bergman appear briefly in the film. Bergman has some lines as
a robbed bank teller, and Proctor appears a minister interrupted during
a burial. Color 93 mins. Available on video tape from Fox Video, 8023,
